S. Thomas’ reeling at 87/9 on Day-2 of Big Match

Royal players celebrate a dismissal

S. Thomas’ were struggling at 87 for nine in their first innings on the second day of the 142nd Battle of the Blues Inter-School Big Match against traditional rivals Royal College, at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.

After a complete washout on the first day of the match, Royal came out firing on all cylinders as they entirely dominated the rain-curtailed second day with a magnificent bowling performance.

The match of course started at 1.00 p.m. and Royal made the maximum from the bowler-friendly conditions after they had no hesitation in electing to field.

In fact, the Thomians slumped to 48 for eight at tea from 26 overs before Yasiru Rodrgo and Mahith Perera rescued them with a ninth wicket stand of 38 runs.

Paceman Sonal Amarasekera did the early damage with a superb three-wicket burst while Gishan Balasooriya ran through the S. Thomas’ middle order with a four-wicket haul.
