100,000 LP gas cylinders to be released to the market today

Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe said 100,000 LP gas cylinders, equivalent to 1,500 metric tons of LP gas, will be distributed today to address current market shortages.

Two additional vessels carrying LP gas are scheduled to arrive in the country. A vessel transporting 3,900 metric tons is due on February 25, while another carrying 3,700 metric tons is expected on February 28.

Meanwhile, a special meeting is scheduled today between ministry officials and representatives of Laugfs Gas to discuss the ongoing supply shortage.

The minister said legal action will be taken against the company if it fails to resume adequate distribution. The company has been given until March 12 to ensure sufficient stocks are available to its customers. (Newswire)
