1,250 schools will be developed as ‘Smart Schools’

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that in the next few months, 1,250 main schools in the country will be developed as ‘Smart Schools’ and will be managed through a single network under the Education Ministry.

The minister said that a grant of US$ 20 million will be received from the Chinese government for the programme.

He said this while participating in the ceremony of vesting with the students all the classrooms from Grade 1 to 5 at Sirimavo Bandaranaike School in Colombo into smart classrooms.

Further commenting on this, the minister stated that the pilot programme related to the new education system expected to be implemented from next year for grades 1-6-10 has now reached its final stage and the required learning modules have been completed.
