16,000 Development Officers to be appointed teachers

The Education Ministry declared that the absorption of Development Officers attached to government schools into the teaching service, will be expedited.

Of the 23,000 graduates deployed as development officers to train in government schools in 2019, about 7,000 have already been absorbed into the teaching service as teachers to provincial schools. The absorption of the remaining 16,000 development officers into the teaching service has been delayed for some time due to cases filed in the Supreme Court by certain parties.

However, the Education Minister has submitted the relevant Cabinet Memorandum to reach an agreement with the litigating parties to resolve this issue quickly. Also, the observations of the Public Service Commission on the absorption of development officers into the teaching service are to be reconsidered within a week.

The Education Ministry further mentioned that this issue will be resolved promptly with the mediation of the President, as the attention of the President has been drawn on this. Accordingly, this issue will be resolved soon and a statement will be issued in due course, the Education Ministry statement in this regard revealed.
