40% of Pharmaceutical requirements in 2025 from local Manufacturers – Health Ministry
Deputy Director General of the Medical Supply Division of the Ministry of Health Dr. G. Wijesuriya said yesterday (30) that it intends to purchase 40% of the country’s Pharmaceutical requirement from local manufacturers, for the year 2025. He said the purpose of this is to encourage local manufacturers to provide quality medicines, while preventing shortages.
This was decided at a discussion held yesterday, chaired by the Prime Minister and Minister in charge of Health Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Ministry of Health.
He also stated that Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will present a Cabinet Memorandum shortly in this regard. He said purchasing Pharmaceuticals locally will also help get the Medicinal Drugs without any delays, while also saving a large amount of Foreign Exchange. He further added that Premier Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the supply of Medicines should be done without any shortage, in a way that does not inconvenience patients.
