4,269 evading police warrants arrested – Spokesman

As a result of the Sri Lanka Police’s special operation to prevent crimes, 4,269 individuals who were evading the law were arrested and brought to justice following 277,572 personal inspections and 104,844 vehicle inspections, Police Media Spokesman, SSP Buddika Manathunga said.

He said, “On January 12, the Sri Lanka Police launched a special operation to prevent crimes. This initiative involved 607 police stations across the country as well as specialised units. Over the 13-day period, the police conducted 277,572 personal inspections and 104,844 vehicle inspections.”

“During this operation, 249 individuals were arrested for directly contributing to crimes and evading the law. Additionally, 4,020 individuals with outstanding warrants who were evading the law were apprehended and brought to justice.”

“The aim of this operation was to inspect suspicious vehicles and individuals, thereby deterring those preparing to commit crimes to ensure a safer environment for the public. This successful initiative will continue to be implemented to maintain public safety and prevent crimes effectively,” he added.
