Leader of the House and Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday that steps have been taken to appoint 4,672 new Principals and they will be attached to countrywide schools at the start of the next new school term.
He said that monthly training is being given to these Principles at the provincial level.
The Minister said this while replying to the question raised by the MP Kumarasiri Ratnayake.
He said that a special programme has been implemented for the Principals who are currently working in remote areas and prevailing vacancies in the education administration service will be filled as soon as possible.
The Minister stated that there are 808 vacancies in the Education Administration Service and the evaluation of the results of Open Competitive Examination for Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service conducted recently is currently underway and steps will be taken to appoint 404 qualified candidates as soon as possible.
The Minister said that no school will be allowed to be isolated under the upcoming education reforms and it is planned to establish 1250 cluster schools across the country. Accordingly, all the nearby schools will be operated as a group of schools.
The Minister said that there are isolated schools in districts like Moneragala and parents do not have the enough income to maintain those schools.
He said that under the upcoming education reforms, a system will be set up where the schools in the cluster will be taken care of by the other schools within the cluster and thus the resources will be divided between the schools.
