The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a person who had cheated eight youths by promising them jobs as sailors in merchant ships in Malaysia and defrauded them of more than Rs.10 million. This suspect named K. S. Thushanthan (36), a resident of Arunagiri Road,
Trincomalee, had been absconding and in hiding for a while, a top official of the CID said. Based on a tip-off eceived that this suspect was hiding in Manthrimulla Road, Attidiya, officers of the CID had gone to the place and taken him into custody.
The CID further stated that this person, who obtains money by promising to provide jobs as sailors on merchant ships, engages in this fraud by taking the people who paid him the money to Malaysia and using people who are taken there for other jobs.
