There is a huge potential for Sri Lankan coloured gemstones in Dubai, said founder and chairman House of Ashish Vijay, Ashish Vijay addressing the recently concluded four day congress hosted by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) Free Zone Authority.
He said that Sri Lanka is a leading exporter of colored gemstones and Dubai can provide a high end marketing platform for these stones. Vijay said that currently there is no proper platform laid out to market Sri Lanka colored stones which are also of very high quality and he hopes to create this platform and act as the bridge between Sri Lanka color stone sellers and Dubai based merchants.” He said that through this proposed platform even small scale miners in Sri Lanka could get direct access for Dubai gem auctions and also market them to the entire Gulf market.
“Dubai is a financial hub that connects many countries and the opportunities for the Sri Lankan color stone market would be huge.”
The idea of having a free port for colored gemstones in the UAE would be an incredible boost for Dubai as well as the country could be projected as a hub for coloured gemstones worldwide. We’re really looking forward to developing all of these avenues through a Destination Management Company. (DMCC) and we are also working towards a joint venture with them.”
