Robber who entered house through chimney arrested

The Jaffna Police arrested a 24-year-old drug addict from Kokuvil, who entered a Software Engineer’s house in Kokuvil, Jaffna through the chimney and stole Rs.141,000 yesterday (13).

The thief had entered the house through the kitchen chimney and had stolen the money which was hidden under the bed in the software engineer’s bedroom.

Police said that the theft had taken place between February 12 and March 5 when the engineer was not at home. But the engineer had lodged a complaint with the Police only on Sunday.

The Jaffna Police arrested the suspect within a few hours of receiving the complaint by checking security camera footage.

According to Police, the suspect had already spent the stolen money on drugs.
