Sergeant interdicted over assault in Opanayake

A Police sergeant who had allegedly assaulted a person who had arrived at the Opanayake Police Station to make a complaint   was arrested by the Opanayake police on Tuesday.

In addition the sergeant in question has been interdicted with immediate effect on the orders of the Ratnapura ASP.

Rathnapura DIG Priyantha Liyanage had ordered the Opanayake police station a full scale investiation against the police sergeant after a vedio clip of the sergeant assaulting the person inside the police station went viral on social media.

Based on the outcome of this investigation, the sergeant was interdicted by the Ratnapura ASP.
