Gammanpila for privatization subject to five conditions

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader lawyer Udaya Gammanpila said yesterday (3) at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters that he would agree to privatization subject to five conditions. 

The conditions of privatization should be done with utmost transparency and an All-Party Committee should be set up in Parliament to monitor privatization.

Before privatization, an assessment report of the real value of the company should be submitted to that Committee and after privatization, an Audit Report should be submitted to that Committee that the privatization process was done in a fair and transparent manner. The Government should not be able to privatize any institution without the approval of the Committee.

There should be regulations to prevent the emergence of a market that exploits the people as a result of privatization.

Privatization should not happen in such a way that these institutions fall into the hands of the enemies of the motherland and threaten National Security. In order to avoid Private Sector bargains and to face emergencies, institutions should not be privatized, but new entrepreneurs should be given the opportunity and a maximum competitive market should be provided. Strategically important institutions should be retained by the state.
