Shooter ‘Buru Moona’ had spent night in Eheliyagoda hotel before surrender

The underworld gunman Ravindu Warna Rangana, alias ‘Buru Moona’, had spent a night with a prostitute at   a hotel in Eheliyagoda by promising to pay her Rs 50,000 before being arrested the following day.

Interrogations revealed that he had arranged the prostitute to visit the hotel because he knew that he had to stay in jail without bail for a long time after surrendering to court.

‘Buru Moona’ was to surrender to the court on March 16 through a lawyer. He stayed in Avissawella for this purpose but since the Avissawella Magistrate was on leave that day, he had to stay at a nearby place until the next day. Investigations have revealed that Gagana, a drug trafficker operating from Dubai, had facilitated his surrender. Three friends of Gagana came to take him to a hotel in Eheliyagoda that day and ‘Buru Moona’ went with them according to instructions given over the phone by Gagana from Dubai, the Western Province South District Crime Division revealed after questioning the criminal.

Investigations also revealed that Gagana had arranged money for the hotel expenses. Investigations revealed that three rooms in the hotel were reserved paying Rs.21,000, one room for Buru Moona and the other two rooms for the two people sent by Gagana for his protection.

Police say that they were having alcohol that evening and ‘Buru Moona’ used Ice. The criminal revealed to the police that the hotel had supplied the prostitute to him.

The woman is a resident of Eheliyagoda area. Officers of the Western Province South District Crime Division have identified her from the hotel and a statement was recorded from her.

She had demanded Rs.20,000 per hour and since Buru Moona wanted to spend the whole night with her she had agreed to Rs.50,000. Buru Moona had promised to pay Rs. 12,000 in advance and pay the rest the next day. But investigations have also revealed that he had not given her money as promised. A senior police officer said that she had given her bank account number and phone number and asked Buru Moona to make a call after depositing the money.
