Man with Gelignite sticks weighing over 13 kg arrested

A team of Police officers of Mannar Police Station arrested a man for possessing 100 sticks of Gelignite explosives  weighing 13 kg and 200 grams. According to the information received by the Mannar Police, this person was arrested near the Mannar bus stand while travelling on a motorcycle.

The suspect has been identified as Neville Joseph (47), a resident of Pallimunai, Mannar.

The explosives are manufactured in Sri Lanka and the name of the respective manufacturer is mentioned. The police say that these explosives are issued to quarries for limited use.

Some fishermen illegally use these for fishing. Investigations have revealed that these gelignite sticks have been brought to Mannar to be sold to fishermen.

The police say that further investigations will be conducted and the suspect will be detained.
