SJB will support Anti-Corruption Bill

Samagi Jana Balawegaya General Secretary, MP Ranjith Maddumabandara said that  SJB will give its fullest support to any viable Anti-Corruption Bill.

He said this at the press conference held at the Opposition Leader’s office. “We know that this country became bankrupt because there was a lot of corruption. The CID and the FCID conducted investigations in this regard during the good governance period and submitted the necessary reports against 130 people to the Attorney General’s Department. Not only that, thirty cases have been filed in courts with the approval of the Attorney General’s Department.

However, some of these cases were withdrawn due to technical reasons. We request to re-implement legal actions against these cases if this Anti-Corruption Bill is brought. By now, a large number of cases have been piled up in the Attorney General’s Department. The CID and other related officers have investigated and reported the facts. But the government has failed to take any action in this regard.

“How can thieves be caught when members of the ruling party are involved in corruption? This Bill can be introduced but no action can be taken. We say that we will give full support to any anti-corruption bill. Also, the government should implement the law with regard to the existing files and cases that have been removed due to technical errors. Also, It should immediately take legal action on those files that have been submitted to the Attorney General’s Department. Otherwise, no matter what money comes from the International Monetary Fund or the World Bank, or any other institution, the country cannot recover.We ask the President to take necessary measures to bring the Anti-Corruption Act.We are repeatedly questioning how can the President make these decisions and take action when he is together with thieves,” he added.
