On Thursday, April 6 afternoon a special visit was made by Egyptian Ambassador Maged Mosleh to the Tourism State Ministry to meet Tourism State Minister Diana Gamage to develop inbound & outbound tourism between Egypt and Sri Lanka. In January this year, the State Tourism Ministry of Sri Lanka successfully entered into an agreement with Qatar which has pledged 1 million tourists from the Middle Eastern region during 2023 and 2024.

‘The discussions concluded with the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Sri Lanka will further expand the Ministry’s plans in this important region’ said Gamage.

“We have embarked on similar discussions with Turkey too and expect to visit there as well as a few other strategically important markets for us shortly to reach similar agreements,’ said State Tourism Ministry Coordinating Secretary Dr Arosha Fernando. With the efforts made by the State Tourism Ministry during the past six months with the support of other associated government institutions, there has been a significant improvement in the foreign tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka and month by month it continues to grow which directly contributes positively to the current foreign exchange issue.
