Man who mediated in dispute stabbed to death

A man who tried to mediate in a clash between two families residing in opposite houses in Shantipuram, Mannar died by succumbing to injuries sustained due to an attack with a sharp weapon by one of parties involved in the dispute.  

The deceased was identified as R.Clayton Soyza (35), a resident of Emil Nagar, Mannar).

Police say that the murder took place on Sunday and the person died on admission to the Mannar Hospital.The Mannar Police stated that the investigations revealed that the residents had been estranged for a long time.

Police say that there was a party at which alcohol was served at the home of the person who is alleged to have committed the attack.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the residents of that house had caused the conflict.The Mannar Police say that three women and two other people were injured and admitted to the Mannar Hospital after the person who intervened to settle the dispute was cut and injured with a sharp weapon.

Four persons involved in the murder and assault have been identified by name. Police said that they were absconding. A senior Police officer said that a special Police team had been appointed to arrest the suspects.
