Import restrictions will be eased on some more goods – State Minister

Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that steps will be taken to ease import restrictions on many other goods. 

The State Minister said that it will also help to achieve the expected revenue targets of the Customs. The Minister said this yesterday (18) while speaking to the media after a review meeting on the revenue targets of the Customs for the year.

The revenue target given to Customs for the first three months is Rs.270 billion.

But the minister points out that the income received during that period is 12 percent less than the expected income. Siyambalapitiya says that this is mainly due to the imposition of restrictions on the import of goods. In 2021, 485 items and 750 items in 2022 are subject to import restrictions.

Siyambalapitiya also says that the fall in the value of the dollar in March against the rupee also made it impossible to reach the revenue targets.
