Suspect with over 26 Kgs of Kerala Cannabis nabbed

A suspect with over 26 Kgs of Kerala Cannabis was apprehended during a special operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy on April 23 in the coastal area of Anthony Puram in Palali, Jaffna.

Accordingly, naval personnel of Veththalakerni and Point Pedro Naval Detachments in SLNS Uththara in the Northern Naval Command mounted this operation by deploying an Inshore Patrol Craft P 055.

A person was apprehended on suspicion and the Navy was able to recover about 26 kilogrammes and 170 grams of Kerala Cannabis in 13 packages concealed in a boat used to smuggle drugs.

Meanwhile, the gross street value of the seized consignment of Kerala cannabis is estimated at over Rs. 8 million. The 21-year-old suspect apprehended is a resident of Anthony Puram. The seized Kerala cannabis and the suspect were handed over to the Palali Police for onward legal action.
