Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was misled and misguided by so called professionals on organic fertiliser and the entire country had to face bankruptcy, SLPP MP S. M. Chandrasena said.
He stated this while attending the media conference held yesterday (27) at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party headquarters.
MP Chandrasena added that the former President made a huge mistake by taking a wrong decision on banning inorganic fertiliser in the country.
“We accept that former President Gotabaya Rajapakse made a mistake. Doctors in this country gave him wrong advise. He was advised that the sole reason for the kidney disease, several undiagnosed diseases and non-communicable diseases is chemical fertiliser, pesticides and weedicides.
Diseases are caused due to chemical usage. With this wrong opinion he decided to ban chemical fertiliser imports and other chemical usage in farming and agriculture. That decision resulted to create many issues in many sectors not only in the agriculture sector but also in many other sectors also.
However he said that this problematic situation was not a mistake made by the SLPP.Chandrasena said that as a result of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa being misled and misguided, the entire country had to face a difficult period.
“So, we are sorry about that. But we re-arranged the government in a way that we could. President Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed from the SLPP. Now the fertilizers and oil are available freely again. We will bring the country back to normal. Therefore, we can be happy today as a group of people who are correcting the past mistakes,” Chandrasena added.
Speaking on the May Day arrangements Chandrasena added that arrangements are being made to hold the coming May Day rally at Campbell Park under the leadership of former President MP Mahinda Rajapaksa, who ended the LTTE terrorism in the country and gave the name of development to the country.
“SLPP is preparing to celebrate May Day in a very grand manner this year. We had a very successful May Day at the Galle Face in 2017 when we were in the Opposition. It is considered as the largest May Day rally held by a political party in the history. The day of farmers and workers is special for us as they are the foundation of the party.
Accordingly, a party representing the common people of the country, a party representing the farmer and the worker and all the trade unions is inviting to all to participate in this May Day celebrations with great interest. Also, our former Local Government chairpersons, councillors, parliamentarians and all the organizers are participating in the May Day,” Chandrasena, said.
“The May Day rally will be held under the leadership of our former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who presented a programme for our country, ended the LTTE terrorism in this country, and introduced the name of development to this country,” he added.
