Hospitals, labs fined Rs. 9.4 Mn for overcharging

Courts have fined Rs 9.4 million on twelve private hospitals and laboratories for charging more than the gazetted fee for dengue  and full blood count tests, Consumer Affairs Authority’s Senior Investigation Officer A.U.Ranjana said.

The senior investigation officer said that the fines have been imposed by the courts of Colombo, Nugegoda, Maligakanda and Mount Lavinia. This was after filing lawsuits based on the information revealed regarding the charging of excessive amounts during the investigations carried out in the past four months by the Colombo District Special Raid Unit.
