University student, three wheeler driver arrested with fake notes

 A Jaffna University student and a three wheeler driver were arrested yesterday (04) by Palai Police at a roadblock at Elephant Pass along with fake notes  in the Rs.5,000 and Rs.500 denomination to the value of over Rs. 1.2 million.

 

These fake notes have been found by the Police when the suspects motorbike plying from Jaffna to Kilinochchi was checked by the Police at the Elephant Pass road block yesterday evening.

 

Police said that the fake notes were found in the bag which was carried by the pillion rider.According to Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, Police found 250 fake notes in the denomination of Rs.5,000 and 27 fakes notes in the denomination of Rs. 250 with serial numbers.  

 

The university student is a resident of Pudukuduirippu. The three wheeler driver is a resident of Mirusuvil.  A senior Police officer said that investigations into the incident are to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department.
