Domestic dies at police station during theft probe

The domestic helper who was arrested on suspicion of a theft in the house of a female tele-drama producer had suddenly fallen ill at the police station and died after being hospitalized. The deceased is a 42-year-old woman from Demodara, Badulla. This film and television drama producer who is also a businesswoman residing in Rajagiriya Royal Gardens had complained to the Welikada Police about a theft that happened at her house on May 11.

The police acting on the complaint had arrested the woman who was working in a house at Borella Cotta road at the time of her death. Police information revealed that she was taken to the police station was questioned for a long time and later she had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital due to difficulty in breathing. She had later died at the hospital. Welikada police OIC refused to divulge information, when queried about the incident.
