Wennappuwa Police managed to arrest two suspects who fled after attacking four railway employees including the Station Master and damaging the Station Master’s office in the Bolawatta Station.
The suspects had attacked the railway employees after being informed not to drink alcohol within the station premises by the acting station master.
Due to the fact that the acting station master and the other three employees who were injured in the attack were hospitalised, three passenger trains had to be stopped at other railway stations due to the inability to issue signals from Bolawatte station for trains to move.
Here, the Railways General Manager had contacted the police to ensure the safety of the railway employees and also took steps to run the stopped trains.
Police said that the two suspects were arrested while they were staying at the Bolawatta beach. It has been revealed during the inquiry that they had gone to the beach in the hope of boarding a boat and going to Negombo or Halawata to evade arrest.
Police say that these two suspects are residents of Bolawatta and Lunuwila and they are 34 and 45 years old. Both have past criminal records.
