Man remanded for stealing money from Professor’s handbag

Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday (22) ordered that a young man who entered the Law Faculty of the Colombo University without permission,  broke the door of the women’s toilet and stole money from a Professor’s handbag, be remanded until the fifth of next month.

The Kurunduwatta Police informed the Court that information has been revealed that the suspect has been stealing money and property from university students for a long time by pretending to be a Law student of the Colombo University Law Faculty.

On May 18, when the Professor went to the toilet, the suspect broke the door of the toilet and stole Rs.13,400 from the handbag hanging on the wall.

After the Professor complained to the Police, an investigation was carried out according to the suspect’s appearance and the Police arrested the suspect at the university premises.
