NPP LG candidate and gang arrested over motorcycle thefts

The Moratumulla police said that a five member gang, including its leader a suspect named Lara, involved in a number of motorcycle thefts in the Moratuwa area, were arrested along with eight stolen motorcycles. Police said that among those who stole the motorcycles is a candidate contesting from the National People’s Power representing the Kadalana area at the upcoming LG polls.

Police said that during the investigation conducted according to the information received, the suspect who stole motorcycles named Lara was arrested with the chassis and engine number of the motorcycle parts changed.

On further questioning of the arrested suspect, police said that the other four suspects who kept stolen motorcycles and parts with them were arrested.

Police said that the stolen motorcycles were sold at prices above Rs.50,000.Stating that the chassis number and engine number of the five motorcycles had been changed, the police said that the data of two motorcycles had not been changed. The suspects are to be produced before Moratuwa Magistrate’s courts.
