Kandy school employee arrested over Rs. 3.85 Mn fraud

A woman working at a leading international school in Kandy who is alleged to have defrauded Rs.3.85 million paid by students on behalf of sitting for London examinations has been taken into custody by the Kandy Police Special Fraud Investigations Unit on suspicion. It has been revealed during police investigations that this employee had not entered the amounts paid by students, into the computer and engaged in this fraud.

Subsequent to auditors discovering that there was a deficit in monies collected on behalf of examinations, the school’s Director had lodged a complaint with the police. Following investigations that were conducted, the police arrested the employee on suspicion.

This 35-year-old woman had been recruited for employment at the school in 2016. Police Sergeant 37262 Hettiarachchi had reported facts regarding the incident to court based on the instructions of Officer-In-Charge of the Fraud Investigations Unit Chief Inspector Uvindasiri.
