Three members of same family killed in tipper truck, three-wheeler collision

Three members of the same family were killed in an accident when a tipper truck and a three-wheeler collided yesterday (12) at Thulhiriya in the Colombo-Kurunegala main road. Police said that the father, mother and son of the same family residing at Rambukkana, Hinguruwatte, Kotawella have died in this accident.

The deceased are Dhanushka Gayan Pinnavala (4), Dinesha Sriyani Gamlath (39),Geetma Thatsara (13).

The family was returning home from a funeral in Galle when the three-wheeler they were travelling collided with the tipper truck travelling towards Colombo, in the Thulhiriya area.

The three-wheeler had suddenly changed direction from the road towards the opposite lane and collided with the sand-loaded tipper truck, CCTV footage shows. Police suspect that the three wheeler driver had fallen asleep. Police have arrested the driver of the tipper and are conducting further investigations.
