Man arrested over May 9 arson attack in Nittambuwa

Nittambuwa Police officers yesterday (20) arrested the main suspect involved in overturning a jeep parked at the Nittambuwa Police station and setting it on fire in Nittambuwa city on May 9, 2022.

This suspect is a 40-year-old technician in a Government bank in Colombo 2, police said. Police said this jeep belonged to a businessman and when a mob was about to damage it,the businessman was entering the Police station for safety and the group of people chased the jeep and set it on fire. A senior Police officer stated that during the long investigation it was revealed that this suspect was the main person who led the mob and he was later arrested. The suspect will be produced before the Attanagalle Magistrate’s Court.
