When a woman who lived on her own in a house in Mattuvil, Jaffna was hacked to death on July 27, it had been her pet dog who had found her body.

The 82-year-old woman named Thambaiah Saroja had been living in the house on her own and only the dog had been there to keep her company.

A group of persons had assaulted and hacked her to death due to some reason and the dog had gone to a close by house early in the morning along the road, and pulled the dress of the woman in that house and brought her back to the house.

Once the woman had come to the house, the dog had taken her to the place where the old woman’s body lay and shown it. The woman had immediately informed the Mattuvil Grama Niladhari about the incident and later a team of police officers from the Chavakachcheri police had visited the house and begun investigations.

Police had been ordered to arrange for a post-mortem examination to be done and to submit the report to court after the Chavakachcheri Magistrate carried out an on-site inspection.
