Dry weather causes three million litres of water to evaporate daily

0 7

With the prevailing extremely dry weather conditions, three million litres of water in the Victoria Reservoir evaporates daily, according to its Engineer-in-Charge Wasantha Ehelapitiya.

He said that the amount of water that is five millimetres high on the surface of 11 square kilometres which is currently filled in the reservoir evaporates daily.

The Engineer-in-Charge stated that a part of the water volume that fills Victoria Reservoir up to a height of about two millimetres usually evaporates and with the current dry weather condition, that amount has increased by more than twice. He emphasised that countries like Germany, France, Korea, and China have taken measures to reduce the amount of water that evaporates by installing solar panels floating on water and in addition, they also generate additional electricity.

He also said that by hanging solar panels on the reservoir, a favourable environment will be created for the fish in the water.
