No bail for errant Kekirawa lawyer

Kekirawa District Judge and Magistrate Senarath Bandara yesterday refused bail to a female lawyer who had allegedly chewed and destroyed two copies of essential documents which were kept in the court safe.

The suspect was further remanded till today (9). The judge also ordered the police to refer the blood samples obtained from the suspect to the Government Analyst. Attorney Tyronne Wijeratne appearing for the suspect requested the suspect be released on any bail condition. Kekirawa Police OIC Chief Inspector Sumith Munasinghe informed court that charges will be filed against the suspect under the Public Property Act. Police cited that she could have destroyed all documents related to the case in a subtle manner, if court officials did not see her chewing some documents.

Police added that if it happened, several court employees would have lost their employment too.
