With the removal of former MP, M. K. Sivajilingam from the Tamil People’s Alliance led by C. V. Wigneswaran on Monday (7), a split has occurred in the Alliance as people loyal to Sivajilingam have decided to gather around him.

Former MP M.K. Sivajilingam was a member of the Northern Provincial Council for a long time and was with the Tamil National Alliance. Later, he joined C.V. Wigneswaran’s Party and was its General Secretary.

Before President Ranil Wickremesinghe went to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi, the Tamil political parties had sent a letter to the Indian Prime Minister requesting him to enforce the 13th constitutional amendment and implement it. In that letter, it was mentioned that the 13th Constitutional Amendment was not in line with the present day and was requested to amend the matters mentioned in it and to grant land and Police powers to the Provincial Councils.

However, former MP Sivajilingam had sent a letter to the Indian Prime Minister and President Ranil Wickremesinghe and said that a referendum be held for the integration of the North and East and the implementation of the 13th Constitutional Amendment, was timely.

The letter had also requested the leaders of the two countries to hold a referendum. Three days ago, the Tamil People’s Alliance party decided that Sivajilingam had acted arbitrarily against the Party’s policies and given notice to Sivajilingam to resign. But, since he did not resign, the Central Committee of the party had met in Jaffna and decided to remove him from the party. Along with this decision, the supporters of Sivajilingam had decided to unite around him, so the Tamil People’s Alliance of C.V.Wigneswaran has started to split.
