Husband shoots wife, kills himself

The Nuwara Eliya Police said that a husband who shot and killed his wife committed suicide by shooting himself over a family dispute between them.

It has been revealed during the preliminary investigations conducted by the police that the couple married about eight months ago.

The deceased couple was living in the house with the husband’s mother and at around 10.30 pm on Monday (7) her son shot her daughter-in-law and when the mother went out of the house to seek help from the neighbours, her son had shot himself in the head.

Nuwara Eliya Police who are investigating the incident said that the shooting was done with a 12-bore Gal Katas type firearm manufactured in this country and that the deceased husband had worked in a tourist hotel in the Nuwara Eliya area.

Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Nalaka Sanjiva Weerasinghe conducted the magisterial examination on yesterday (8) afternoon, and the magistrate ordered the Nuwara Eliya Police to refer the two bodies to the expert forensic doctor of the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for post mortem examination and hand over the bodies to the relatives.
