Teen girl who drove defender recklessly had forged documents

Maradana Police said that investigations confirmed that the Defender vehicle, which was taken into police custody while a young woman was driving, was illegally assembled and registered.

About a month ago, three young women, and the girl driver, who were driving a Defender were arrested by the Maradana police and after presenting the Defender vehicle to the Government Analyst, it was found out that the chassis and engine numbers were forged. Police said that the officers of the Traffic Division of the Maradana Police had signalled the Defender vehicle which was driving recklessly on Maradana Deans Road area last month (9) to stop, and the young girl who was driving it had ignored and drove beyond.

The officers of the traffic department immediately took steps to inform the operation room with the vehicle’s registration number and another group of police officers had signalled the Defender vehicle to stop at Maradana Technical Junction, the officer said. The vehicle which was driving forward without obeying the traffic division officials who were near Kela Pola Junction also signalled it to stop, but the young woman who was the driver of the vehicle ignored them too and proceeded to drive the vehicle past them and the police officers who chased it managed to stop the vehicle near the Tripoli camp.

The girl who was the driver and the other girls had an argument with the police officers at that time.

The arrested young women are educated at a leading girls’ school in Colombo and are residents of Nawala and Colombo area and are under 19 years.Maradana Police OIC is conducting investigations on the instructions of Chief Inspector Ishantha Kumara Epalakotuwa.
