Army presents over 15,000 kg of copra for Maligawa Pageant

Army Commander Lt. Gen.Vikum Liyanage handing over a container of copra to Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.

Over 15,000 kg of copra, which is required to light the streets traditionally, during the time the Esala Perahera in Kandy, parades the streets, was offered to the Sri Dalada Maligawa by Army Commander Lt. General Vikum Liyanage yesterday (11). Copra required for the Perahera festival is being offered by the Army annually since 2014.

The copra is prepared at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment located in Boyagane, Kurunegala.After handing over a stock of copra symbolically to Pradeep Nilanga Dela the Diyawadana Nilame, the army commander and his group paid obeisance at the Dalada Maligawa and obtained blessings.

Pradeep Nilanga Dela the Diyawadana Nilame also presented a commemorative gift to the Army Commander in appreciation of this noble service provided by the Army for a continuous 10 years. Kandy District Secretary Chandana Tennakoon also participated in this event.
