Two rural schoolgirls Vimoksha Balasuriya of Trincomalee Sinhala MMV and Mithali Ayodya Bandara of Rajaela Vidyalaya Kantale have been selected for the girls under 19 preliminary cricket squad to focus on 2025 women’s under 19 World Cup.
Both Vimoksha and Mithali excelled at the recently concluded un der 23 inter district women’s cricket tournament while their achievements guided to win Trincomalee district team to go forward .Vimoksha Balasuriya the right arm medium pace bowler also performed well as a batter scoring 121 runs in 5 matches with an average of 30.25.
Mithali Ayodya started her cricket carrer from Tennis ball cricket later became a talented fast bowler and she also excelled at Tape Ball cricket and that paved the way to enter the Trinco district team.
Mithali also a good athlete and she used to do Javelin throws which helped to become a fast bowler and her action is similar to Lasiith Malinga s action. She has a good future and wanted to give good guidance to come forward, said district coach Nilantha Wimalaweera.
Sri Lanka Cricket women’s cricket convener Apsari Tillekaratne already started to go outstation areas to find talented young cricketers while these two girls are results of this talent search.
Sinhala MMV Trincomalee Principal Sudath Galappathi, Rajaela Vidyalaya Kanthale Principal Thushara Sampath Kumara give good support to uplift their schools cricket while W.N.C Wickramasinghe the school coach and district coach Prageeth Chanaka give good guidance to these rural girls and their aim is bring up these girls to National level.
