‘Economic Justice Commission’ to punish those behind country’s bankruptcy – Champika Ranawaka
United Republic Front (URF) Leader, MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said the URF will set up an “Economic Justice Commission” to take action against those who contributed to the bankruptcy of the country.
He said that the country cannot be saved from bankruptcy even by 2068, without the politicians, officials and others who contributed to the bankruptcy of the country being punished and justice done, like what Iceland did in the past.
Ranawaka was addressing the URF Kalutara District Conference held at the Panadura City Hall.
Countries such as Greece, Argentina and Lebanon went bankrupt. None of these countries punished the politicians and officials who made decisions to bankrupt their countries. That is why, even after 10-15 years, those countries have still not been able to recover from their bankruptcy.
How did Iceland start? The work started with the arrest of 11 people, including politicians, officials, bankers who contributed to the country’s bankruptcy. What was the result? Within 3 years, Iceland was transformed from bankruptcy to a developed country” he said.
