Welimada Police said that a woman and a man were arrested along with the trishaw used for stealing a cash box containing Rs.794,940 from a church on Welimada Moragolla road.
Out of the two suspects who are residents of Welimada Dambavinna area, the 44-year-old suspect was arrested on August 17 and the 42-year-old suspect was arrested on August 18, Police said.
Based on a complaint made on August 11 regarding the theft of the cash box in this church, a team including Welimada Police Crime Division OIC, Inspector Thusitha Kumara had started the investigation.
Police had checked the security cameras installed in the buildings around the church and based on the information obtained from them, the police had arranged to arrest the three-wheeler and the suspects.
Further investigations are underway under Welimada Police OIC Chief Inspector Sampath Abeywickrama.
