Nominations for football leadership were submitted to the AGM Committee on Sunday, setting the stage for a showdown on September 29. The former football President Jaswar Umar heads a 13-member team, while Anuradhapura District Football Association President Dakshitha Sumathipala leads another faction, both vying for supremacy.
“We are committed to a corruption-free and well-managed Football Federation, working for the future of Sri Lanka’s youth,” stated Dakshitha Sumathipala confidently after submitting nominations.
Sumathipala’s team of 13 professionals is focused on elevating football standards by securing sponsorships from global and local entities. “Our ambition is to enhance the sport’s quality by creating a hassle-free environment and expanding football development nationwide,” Sumathipala said.
A strong backing of 35 Leagues has rallied behind Sumathipala’s team, ensuring a formidable presence in the upcoming election. In response, former President Jaswar Umar, leading a 13-member team, highlighted his extensive support base: “We have garnered support from 58 Associations out of 67 across the country,” Umar stated confidently.
