Man remanded for brutally assaulting girlfriend

The Attanagalla Magistrate ordered that a 29-year-old suspect who is a university graduate who allegedly took his 29-year-old girlfriend who is also a graduate to a lodge and beat her until she was unconscious be remanded until September 13.

According to the police, the man had beaten his girlfriend alleging that she had an illicit affair.

According to the Police, it has been revealed during the investigation that the suspect and the person who is hospitalized with injuries have had a romantic relationship while they were studying at Rajarata University. The Police told Court that she was taken to a lodge in Pasyala where she was beaten very brutally by the suspect after consuming alcohol and as a result she is now in Watupitiwala Hospital in a critical condition.

After the police submissions, the Magistrate visited the hospital to look into the health condition of the injured woman and ordered the suspect to be remanded until September 13.
