Sri Lanka’s professional golfer N. Thangaraja surged into the lead on the second day of the four-day Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) September Ranking Tournament at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Thangaraja, displaying exceptional skill on the Par-71 course, carded an impressive 67 strokes, improving upon his previous day’s even-par score of 71.

His stellar performance allowed him to leapfrog over K. Prabaharan, who had led on day one with a score of 68 strokes. However, professional golfer Prabaharan faced a tougher challenge on day two, finishing with a par score of 74 strokes, resulting in a total of 142 strokes and securing him the third position.

In second place is the veteran professional golfer Anura Rohana, who compiled a two-day total of 141 strokes, with scores of 69 on day one and 72 on day two. Notably, all three top players, Thangaraja, Prabaharan, and Rohana, are integral members of the four-member Asian Games golf team. Mithun Perera, another key player in the team, is not participating in this particular tournament.

Adding a touch of surprise to the leaderboard is amateur golfer 15-year-old Reshan Algama, who sits in fifth place with a total of 146 strokes (73+73). Remarkably, Algama has been competing despite a back injury, which has undoubtedly affected his performance. Nevertheless, had he been injury-free, he might have climbed a few steps higher in the rankings.
