Approximately 300 swimmers in Sri Lanka are competing for a chance to participate in the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships. Only 44 spots are available, and these athletes will face off in a Selection Trial organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool on September 16 and 17.
SLASU has organized a clear selection process, which is divided into three age groups: Under-14, Under-17, and 18 and above, for both boys and girls.
The 11th edition of the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships is scheduled for December 3 to 14 in New Clark City, Philippines. This competition will draw in a formidable contingent of over 1,400 swimmers hailing from 40 National Federations across Asia.
In the 12-14 age category, a total of 16 swimmers, with an equal split between boys and girls, will secure their spots. Likewise, seven swimmers, comprising both boys and girls, will be selected for both the 15-17 and 18 and above age groups. This will make a combined total of 44 swimmers who will represent Sri Lanka in the 12-day championship.
