The University of Sri Jayewardenepura has emerged as the overall champions in the Sri Lankan University Games swimming competition, securing a total of 158 points. The University of Peradeniya took the runner-up position with 149 points, while the University of Ruhuna secured third place with 103 points.
The competition, held at the University of Sri Jayawardanapura Swimming Complex on August 28 and 29, witnessed a competition among Sri Lankan universities.
In the Men’s category, the University of Ruhuna claimed the championship title with 90 points, followed by the University of Moratuwa in second place with 74 points and the University of Peradeniya in third place with 72 points.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s category, the University of Sri Jayawardenepura dominated with 113 points, with the University of Peradeniya as runners-up with 77 points, and the University of Colombo securing the third spot with 43 points.
The student athletes delivered outstanding performances throughout the competition, setting a total of 17 new meet records. Eight records were shattered in the Men’s category, with Sandev Senarathna of the University of Kelaniya setting three new records in the 100m Freestyle, 200m
Freestyle, and 50m Butterfly. Ishara Abeyratne of the University of Peradeniya established two records in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke, while Amila Fernando of the University of Ruhuna set a new record in the 50m Backstroke. Additionally, both the University of Ruhuna and the University of Moratuwa set new records in the 4x100m Medley Relay and 4x100m Freestyle Relay in the Men’s category.
In the Women’s category, L.C.N Fernando and K.A.H.D Perera achieved two new records each in the 50m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke, and 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, respectively. K.A.H.S Perera set three new meet records in the 50m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly, and 200m IM events. The University of Sri Jayawardanapura also established new records in the two relay events.
