The Thalangama Police say that the identity of the woman suspected to be one Sujatha Munasinghe Manabharana, who was assassinated in a lodge in Thalangama, has not yet been identified and her body remains in the police morgue for three weeks.

A senior police officer said that although information about her was reported in the mass media, even a relative had not come to identify her or accept her dead body.

The official said that even the name Sujatha Munasinghe Manabharana had not been confirmed. Police suspect her name to be so according to the documents including newspaper reports found at the place where she was killed. Neither her residence nor her national identity card or any other acceptable identity document has been found so far, the official said.

She was known as a counsellor who was engaged in counselling with the full blessing and permission of the Defence Ministry during the war. She visited Army camps and police stations to boost the morale of the soldiers then.

The body of this woman was found in the afternoon of September 4, killed by a person who was in the lodge room with her. A letter written by her killer was also found in the room where she was killed. So far no clear information has been revealed as to who that person is.

When asked about this, a responsible officer of the Thalangama Police said that they had even requested information about her from the Defence Ministry. “We asked the Defence Ministry for information about her. We have not received any information yet. We think that the Defence Ministry also does not have information about her,” official said.
