Agriculture sector invited to China’s Hainan Agricultural Exhibition

Hainan Province Vice Governor Gu Gang and other high officials of the Hainan Province officially invited Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera on Monday (25) for the annual agricultural exhibition in China’s Hainan Province which is to be held in December.

Rice cultivation in Sri Lanka was discussed here in particular, and Hainan State is also a state that has prioritized rice cultivation. The yield of paddy per hectare in that province is 7,500 Kgs. Opinions were also expressed regarding the provision of technical support in Hainan state to increase rice production in our country, which is currently up to 4.5-5.0 metric tons.

Also, the Agriculture Minister, while giving information regarding the Sri Lankan fruits, mentioned that at present export standard sour bananas, katu anoda (Anona Muricata), passion fruit, papaya, and pineapple are also grown in the country.

Accordingly, the Deputy Governor said that he is ready to give the opportunity to present the fruits and vegetables of Sri Lanka in the annual agricultural exhibition to be held in Hainan Province next December.

He also handed over the invitation to the minister.

Agriculture Ministry Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe and a group of officials participated in this event.
