Ambalantota DS office safe robbed of cash

Ambalantota Police said that a complaint has been made that money has been taken from a safe in the Ambalantota Divisional Secretary’s office.

Police said the thief broke the door on the east side of the Divisional Secretary’s office,

entered the office, opened the safe with the relevant key and took away the money from the safe.

The amount of money that has been taken has not yet been calculated and it is speculated that it could be between Rs.1.2 or 1.5 million, officials said. Police also said that a tab computer which they tried to steal was left behind. Police also say that only one security officer was deployed for the security at the office. In the morning, the custodian of the office keys noticed that the glass of the door was broken and immediately informed the Secretary about the incident. Some computers were also stolen from the Ambalantota Maha Vidyalaya earlier. Ambalantota Police are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
