The incessant rain that fell in the village of Dandniya in the Dikwella Divisional Secretariats Division of the Matara District wreaked havoc by submerging roads, earth slips, disruption of power supply, fallen trees and branches.
The immense volume of water which gushed over the spill of the Dandeniya tank and flattened the railings of the bridge on the Dandeniya – Ratmale Road downstream of the spill. The railings were ten feet above the stream bed. Village elders say that the last time the Dandniya Ratmale Road was submerged was more than five decades ago.
The main Matara Tangalle Road was submerged at Polgahamulla and the Ratmale Dikwella Road was submerged at Wehella.
