The owners and drivers of the 56 buses that were driving dangerously on the roads were called to the Fort Police Traffic Headquarters yesterday (02), but only 26 buses and their owners have turned up.

DIG Indika Hapugoda told the Daily News yesterday (02) that according to the complaints made by the people, the owners and drivers of the buses were called to the Fort Police Traffic Headquarters.

The owners and drivers of the 26 buses have been informed and warned and the revenue licenses of those buses have been taken into custody by the police and prohibitory orders have been given to stop the running of the buses, and to rearrange the buses as they were at the time of registration at the Transport Commissioner’s Department and bring and show them to the police, the Deputy Inspector General of Police said. Absentee bus owners and drivers have been ordered to come to the police traffic headquarters and strict action will be taken against them if they do not come.

Among these buses are the buses known by various nicknames including ‘Dam Rajina’, ‘Dumburu Lamissi’ and ‘Rosa Samanali’, which are the most talked about on social media.

The buses were decorated with various decorations and colourful light bulbs to look like clubs.

The traffic police has warned and informed the owners and drivers to remove all those illegal parts immediately. DIG of Police Traffic Division Indika Hapugoda further stated that the Police Traffic Division will take legal action against the bus drivers who have arranged such illegal and highly dangerous buses in the future and to inform the police about such buses.
