The Cinnamon Gardens Police say that four students of a private university in Rajagiriya have been arrested on suspicion of abducting a young man near the Colombo Race Course. They are accused of taking him away in a car, beating him, stealing a gold necklace and dropping him near Kollupitiya Liberty Roundabout. The car used for kidnapping has also been taken into police custody. The young man who was attacked is being treated in the hospital.
The police investigation revealed that the victim was scheduled to attend a birthday party held at a reception hall in Nugegoda and was near the Race Course with a group of friends.
According to the police, one young man who was among the group of abductors was angry about the abducted man publishing his girlfriend’s photos on the internet.
Therefore, he called the perpetrator for a meeting, abducted and harassed him. The suspects are to be produced before the court. The Officer-in-Charge of Cinnamon Gardens Police Chief Inspector Aloka Bandara Senanayake is leading investigations on the incident.
